How to make:

1 cup of milk (dairy or plant based alternative)
1/2 tsp tumeric
1/4 tsp cinnamon
a pinch of black pepper
a pinch of ground ginger (or small piece of fresh ginger)
1/2 tsp raw honey or maple syrup
a pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Pour your milk into a saucepan and add the spices. Heat the milk on a medium to low heat and stir continuously. Remove from heat when the milk starts to simmer. Serve immediately.

Most of us, when we're feeling tired and a little run-down, reach for a coffee to perk us up. The quick hit of caffeine makes us feel like we can tackle everything, and gives us the little boost we need. However, for this week's Wellbeing Wednesday, we thought we'd share why you should consider swapping your usual latte for a tumeric one.

Tumeric lattes (sometimes known as tumeric tea) is a milky drink that originates from India, where it was known as Golden Milk. In India, the drink was, and still is, used as a cold remedy or to prevent illness. Served warm, it's a comforting drink with a lot of surprising health benefits.

1. It can help your body fight infection
Its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, mean that drinking tumeric when you have a cold or flu, can help support your body to fight infection. And by increasing your mucus production, it can help you flush out microbes causing you to get sick.

2. It can relieve muscular pain
With its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, tumeric can not only help heal wounds and fight infection, it can also help to relieve joint pain and even arthritis. As well of course as helping to reduce DOMS after exercise!

3. It helps improve your skin
The anti-inflammatory properties of tumeric mean that its great for your skin and can help to improve your complexion and general skin tone. And with anti-bacterial properties, it can help reduce blemishes and acne.

4. Studies suggest it can help to fight cancer
Some studies have shown that tumeric has the ability to kill cancer cells, and even inhibit growth of cancerous cells. Coupled with its immunity boosting antioxidant properties, it can help you feeling healthy.

5. It can help to relieve depression
Although there's not clear studies as to how tumeric exerts anti-depression properties, its ability to reduce brain inflammation, mean that its been linked to helping support patients with both Alzheimer's and depression.
